🌊 Even under normal conditions - without storm swells - these powerful annual tides are putting Santa Cruz’s coastline to the test, eroding our shores and stressing aging infrastructure.

The recent collapse of 150 feet of the historic wharf is a stark reminder that our coast is changing faster than we can adapt. With ongoing challenges like housing shortages and an almost year-round wildfire season straining resources, addressing sea level rise becomes even more complex.

So what can we do?

At Virtual Planet, we’re using immersive storytelling including drone footage to bring the realities of climate change to life. By visualizing the impacts of these average king tides, we can help communities and decision-makers develop forward-thinking solutions - whether it’s redesigning coastal infrastructure, improving early warning systems, or planning smarter land use strategies to reduce future risks.

Resilience isn’t just about rebuilding - it’s about adapting with equity, sustainability, and long-term vision in mind.

See the power of king tides for yourself - watch our latest drone footage and join the conversation on what Santa Cruz's future can look like.
