Did you know that atmospheric rivers - massive corridors of water vapor in the sky - can carry up to 15 times the flow of the Mississippi River in just a few days?

These phenomena are essential for water supply in areas like California but can also unleash devastating floods, especially as climate change intensifies their impact.

Atmospheric rivers combined with sea level rise increase runoff and erosion continue to stress coastal infrastructure. In Santa Cruz, California, we often witness these events firsthand (see our drone footage from 2023).

At Virtual Planet, we bring these climate challenges to life through immersive storytelling. Our 360-degree films and VR experiences make the invisible visible, allowing communities to see the impact of climate change before it happens.

In Santa Cruz and beyond, we use cutting-edge technology to help decision-makers and the public prepare for the realities of atmospheric rivers, rising seas, and coastal erosion. Santa Cruz is already taking action with innovative coastal resilience strategies against sea level rise, coastal erosion and storm surge. 🌱🌊
